Universal must be desperate because they just optioned the rights to the video game Asteroids... as in the Atri game where you are a triangle space ship shooting asteroids until they inevitably hit you and you blow up and that's the entire game. What are they thinking? I really hope they got a discount rate on this because with no plot or characters at all and no iconic images that are at all translatable to the screen. So basically all they bought was a name. And that name is either going to make people shrug and not care or go "What the hell?" Neither of which is a good thing.
I really really really don't get this one. I mean Asteroids as a game has never gotten a sequel or new generation upgrade, simply because there's nowhere to go with it really. Universal could have taken any idea they want and set it in an asteroid field and it'd be the same as what they end up doing with this, they just would have had to call it something else. And let's be honest the "Asteroids" brand name isn't exactly going to pack them in the isles. _________________ Is it time for my pills? |
